Attack of the 50 Foot Woman Revised Edition

I wanted to put this piece into Jenny’s blog sort of an addendum as when I wrote the story it didn’t have a home yet well now it does. And I will add a few things, as is my wont. I love that word “wont” you may see it now and again.

I was so spoiled back on Long Island as there were some very talented women (mostly) and men who made the call in the place I called the “Lavender Palace” or what you fellow spinners would just say is our cycle studio. I shed many a pound and gallons of sweat there. And when I came here to Florida I never imagined I would be as happy as I am in this club. Oh it has a lot to be desired but for all intents it suits me. I miss the camaraderie though that I had and still have when I go back to my gym called Equinox in Woodbury Long Island they still fuss over me (my vanity) and welcome me back with open arms and I guess I was somewhat of a character there always bellowing out of turn making a racket whenever my heart beckoned me. Here though I just don’t feel that. Maybe one day.

But this blog is about Jenny Little and her adventures. And here is that first piece in case you missed it. I called it the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. She is after all larger than life.

I thought I might title this entry: Attack of the 50 Foot Woman but thought better of it so as not to scare anyone away. That title was actually a sci-fi  movie of the same name dated 1958 with probably the worst special effects captured on celluloid film. The heroine grown to mythic proportions is transparent throughout because CGI hadn’t been invented just yet.

Jenny on the other hand has quite genuine “special effects” resplendent with the talent of some of the best spin instructors I’ve experienced at my former home at Equinox in New York. Ms. Little displays the science of Dana Mancini who was remarkable for making class an “inside job” and the athleticism of Rocky who took my physiology “once step beyond” what I thought I was capable of and of course the Queen of spin Kristen James whose charm and charisma sparked my “afflatus” in many of my writings here on the net.

Jenny today this Sunday reignited my blue flame which I have to say I thought had just run out of propane. Five and a half years of spinning yarns literally about spin class had me thinking that this series was just done. What else could I say? Well maybe a new chapter new geography a new face might just put a new spin on my flywheel. I could complain that the Spinner bikes at 24 Hour Fitness are a bit long in the tooth with no onboard computer or creature comforts I had grown accustomed to back in Woodbury but Jenny Little made me forget that at rides end my butt hurt like the Dickens as her repertoire was positively ingenious for its complexity but simplicity in her delivery. Tempo, a driving rhythm, short breaks and a discogrpahy that was silky. Off the bike and on the bike Jenny moves with a fluidity of a Gene Kelly and the strength of a decathalete she is.

Episode II

Encore encore!  Not always easy to start a blog especially when someone’s name is attached.  There became a time slot finally in my day today to follow up with a second entry and here goes for better or worse hopefully for better.

Jenny Little’s Adventures. First off or second off I didn’t think I would continue in this vein writing about fitness experts but I wanted to make an exception in Jenny’s case because one; she is so self effacing (refreshing as all get out) and two and three drama free and and and carries none of the worldly baggage of where she might be or not be in the world when she walks in the doors of 24 Hour Fitness. She doesn’t have fake friends; is totally genuine  and has no pretense within 100 miles of her.

I am loving her style of play more and more and especially her athletic theatrics off the bike as she moves about the imaginary stage in front of us transporting her lithe form always in perfect tempo to the rhythm of the road whether it be hill or speed it matters not as my Jack the River beneath my Trojan horse bike lets me know she’s squeezing this old man’s sponge dry.

Once in awhile I lose focus and I drift off into that scary place of Jack’s brain and there she appears as if by magic like Tinkerbelle in a poised crouch snapping me back gentling summoning me to keep my head where my feet are, that is clipped in to the pedal and sweating brow to toe.

Last night and I loved this her best friend Allyson out of nowhere yells out “Will you just shut up!”  followed by a projectile and then later “You’re such an a**hole!” Jenny was totally unfazed by either comment nor did she duck when the plastic bottle was thrown at her head. Near rides end it was as if the outburst never happened. This does not happen in the real world ladies and gentlemen. Fake friends please take note! Amazing! Talk about venting so very cool.

So far there’s a triumvirate at 24 Hour that I like and they are of course Jenny and that woman that is defying age Beverly Pepe and now making it on my Hit Parade Jules who I will add to my Saturday morning regimen. I like her because she makes a real point about shutting off cell phones. And people it’s real annoying having those things on during class I mean really! It is too much to ask? Separation anxiety? If you’re a doctor or have an emergency let someone know at the front desk where you are otherwise put the damn thing on Cinemode please its so F-in distracting. Thank you.  Oh I started to talk about Jules I like her music check, voice check, instruction double check. She brings it!

Episode III soon!

Jenny Little's Adventures

Jenny Little’s Adventures. Where did that title come from? Out of thin air as most things do when it comes to writing for me but how fortuitous that in South Florida that I should find an athlete of Jenny’s caliber to write about. Sure back on Long Island I had some multi talented men and women to scribe about but here’s a woman that has no agenda no self aggrandizement issues and no conspicuous consumption she need display in a material world that I was so used to back home.

Jenny is Pure Energy and as I alluded in an earlier entry she is part Gene Kelly part 50 Foot Woman and as anachronistic as that combo might seem just take one her spin classes and you’ll get the picture.

She is so much more than a cycling instructor par extraordinaire as she leads group exercise at 24 Hour Fitness, is a Iron Woman and as I am beginning to suspect is being under utilized in an exercise chain that has a long way to go in recognizing talent in their own stable. I took a look at their group schedule and outside of Jenny’s innovative classes like GRIT Plyo and Core Cross Training how much Zumba does one club need. Sometimes big chains are just not in touch with reality. Corporate needs to visit and check what their membership is up to. At Equinox the Mother Ship kept it’s finger on the pulse because they talked to their Branch Managers and listened and made changes without the lethargy some of the large corporations are guilty of.

Maybe I am getting astray here this is  not supposed to be an indictment on 24 Hour Fitness because this club is huge and for the money it’s a bargain and quite frankly I’d gladly pay more for a bigger supply of towels and better water pressure and oh yes those antique spin bikes but there’s a rumor the Schwinn is coming! My fingers are crossed.

Jenny Little’s Adventures watch for them. They’ll be here at this address
